Celebrating Where Asia Meets America

The Freer Gallery of Art opened to the public in 1923, and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery welcomed its first visitors in 1987. Today, the Freer|Sackler makes inspiring connections among Asia, America, and the world.

Following a two-year renovation project, we are excited to share with you revitalized buildings and all-new exhibitions. Inside the Sackler, you’ll discover cats of ancient Egypt, bells of ancient China, contemporary art from India, and Buddhist art from across Asia. Inside the Freer, reimagined galleries center on universally relevant topics in our permanent collections.

Join us as we celebrate our reopening season with a dynamic series of programs continuing through summer 2018. Experience the art and cultures of Asia, past and present, through our special partnerships with the Silkroad Ensemble, Buddhist Film Foundation, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, and more.
