This double-bodied vessel resembles examples of similar compound vessels found in tombs in northern and northwestern Iran, dating to the period known as Iron Age I-II (ca. 1400800 B.C.E.). The arrangement seems impractical for ordinary household use, suggesting that the vessels had a religious function or significance. Moreover, such joined or compound forms seem alien to the traditional ceramic repertory, and were likely fashioned in imitation of more costly metal prototypes.
