Laurance P. Roberts, Rome, Italy, and Baltimore, MD, given by John Mallet, in about 1946 [2]From 2001
Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, given by Laurance P. and Isabel Roberts in 2001Notes:
[1] The vessel was acquired by Laurance P. Roberts soon after he arrived in Rome as Director of the American Academy in 1946. It was a gift to him from Mr. John Mallet, who had served as secretary to the head of the British Legation in Iran. Mr. Roberts, who has offered to provide a written account, reports that he has always assumed that the vessel was obtained in Iran and given to Mr. Mallet by his former chief (according to Provenance Remark 1, Ann Gunter, March 24, 2001, in the object record).
