- Description

Object was accepted as part of former number S1996.121a-c: Pedestal-footed bowl with interior stand, small cup, and conical lid, originally unrelated but formerly assembled as pastiche.
Cup:
Wheel-thrown, nearly hemispherical cup, with slightly compressed rim. Base flat, with abraded string-cut mark.
Clay: stoneware, medium gray where exposed, light gray beneath glaze chip.
Decoration: narrow band of combing (incised with five-toothed combing tool) just below rim on outside.
Glaze: iron glaze, opaque, matte chocolate brown with some specks of lighter mottling and one vertical patch where raw glaze was rubbed off. Vessel glazed by dipping upside down into vat of glaze; neat line above foot except for run down to foot on one side.
