The artist states: "To decorate the surface beneath the glaze, I coated the high-fired vessel with a ground color of enamel and fired it to melt the enamel. Then I covered the entire vessel with a floral pattern made from thin sheets of silver leaf.  I cut flower petals one by one from the silver leaf, assembled them in blossom forms, and filled the spaces with leaflike shapes. The piece was fired again to adhere the silver to the enamel. Finally, I applied blue enamel glaze and fired the piece one more time."
