- Description
-
Shape: Fragment of the shoulder of a large iron-brown Khmer storage jar. The shard is uniformly 1.6 cm thick.
Clay: Coarse, buff-colored stoneware with many inclusions, two of which are relatively large pebbles. The body is distinctly pinker on the unglazed inner surface and brick-red where it has burned through the glaze on the outside.
Glaze: The thick, lustrous iron-brown glaze is black where it has pooled above the horizontal rings and in the grooves of the incised design. The glaze adheres well and is uncrackled. Coverage is uneven, however, with large patches of body having burned through the glaze.
Decoration: There is a 1.0-cm wide raised ring at the bottom of the shard and incised vegetal designs higher up on this shoulder fragment.
Marks: "Angkor Thom Pool" is written in pencil on the inner surface of the shard.
