Daikoku by Tarōan

Scene of Daikoku with his hammer and giant sack slung over one shoulder, with two small tama in front; streaks of rain; signed and with one ink seal of the aartist, mounting inscribed in gold ink and painted with tama by Tomioa Tessai; inscription reading “This image of Daikoku was painted by Taroan, a tea hermit of Owari. Taoran’s family name is Takada, given name Masaharu, one of his go Boku Oku. He received his tea training from Sen Genbo and studied painting with Kano Tsunebobu. During the Genroku period he was known as an eccentric. I had wanted his painting for a long time. Takada Keiho, his distant descendant, gave up this piece and gave it to me. I had it remounted, recorded the information and added sacred jewels, thus making it into my possession.”
