Kyoto ware or Satsuma ware vase

Classic “arrow-vase” (peach-shaped) with long, cylindrical neck and globular body resting on flat, slightly spreading foot trimmed to form footring.

Clay: Stoneware, footrim darkened on surface by use.

Glaze: Red pigment applied to exterior under colorless glaze. Colorless glaze applied to interior and foot. Unglazed footrim.

Decoration: Monochrome vase with contrasting white interior. A thin band around the edge of the based is glazed with only colorless glaze to suggest a visible footring.
