Small storage jar.
Clay: dense, fine stoneware, medium gray on interior, dark reddish-brown on surface.
Glaze: on “front” of jar, which faced the kiln’s firebox during firing, a broad panel of naturally occurring wood-ash glaze, resulting from fusion of heated clay surface and fly ash from buring fuel; dark olive green, darker still where thick, culminating in single drip running down to foot. To either side of this panel, around shoulder, flecks of glaze where smaller quantities of ash were deposited.
