This album contains twenty-four paintings of contemporary women. Most are commoners who are engaged in everyday activities such as sightseeing, enjoying seasonal flowers, or attending to their children; some perform tasks such as sizing cloth.

The painter Ogata Gekko was a member of the screening committee for the Bunten, an annual art exhibition held under governmental sponsorship from 1907 to 1919. He was also well known as a printmaker and illustrator, as well as creating designs for decorating pottery and lacquer.
