Border: the recto is set in gold and lapis illuminated border on cream-colored paper; the verso is set in gold, red, purple, and blue rulings and a gold outer frame on cream-colored paper.

The opening verse, known as the Fatiha, reads:
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds:
The Beneficent, the Merciful:
Owner of the Day of Judgement.
You alone we worship; you alone we ask for help.
Show us the straight path:
The path of those you have favored; not the path of those who earn your anger nor those who go astray.
