Two riders on a spring outing bring along their hawk and bows as they leisurely set out for the hunt. Their headdresses and black boots are typical of those worn by aristocrats of the Tang dynasty (618907). The leaves, branches, and trunks of trees are all depicted with carefully outlined brushwork, while the rocks and mountains, colored with mineral green, are rendered in the Tang tradition of blue-and-green landscape painting. Dating to the Qing dynasty (16441911), this is a later copy or variation on the hunting theme that first became popular during the Tang dynasty.
