[1] According to Curatorial Remark 1 in the object record, this object was purchased as an original lithograph as part of the publication and monthly review, "The Albemarle," vol. 1, no. 1, January 1892, published in London. The lithograph appeared as the issue's frontispiece and was entitled "A Song on Stone." See also, Original Whistler List, Lithographs, Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery Archives.
[2] The original deed of Charles Lang Freer's gift was signed in 1906. The collection was received in 1920 upon the completion of the Freer Gallery.
