The tall, slender shape of this stoneware jar, the incised bands, and the lotus petals painted in iron-based pigment around the base echo the shape and motifs of more costly cobalt-decorated porcelain. This jar was probably made at the kiln for punch'ong ware located at the foot of Kyeryongsan, a mountain that also housed a Buddhist monastery.
